IWM to mark 25 years since 9/11

The consequences of the September 11 in 2001 attacks continue to shape the world, 25 years on. From counterterrorism and surveillance measures to the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, 9/11 changed global politics, daily life and how conflict is understood.

IWM's anniversary programme invites visitors to reflect on both the immediate impact of the attacks and their enduring global legacy. 

9/11 Photography Installation

This new permanent installation features powerful photographs taken on 11 September 2001 by freelance photographer Bill Biggart and photojournalist Suzanne Plunkett, displayed around a large section of steel recovered from the World Trade Center. It offers a poignant space for reflection and historical context.

Bringing together voices from journalism, international relations, community and faith leadership, IWM Reflections: 9/11 creates a thoughtful and carefully facilitated environment for reflection.

Hosted by Dr Sian Williams, the event will feature a series of conversations with invited contributors, each sharing their own personal stories of 9/11 and its lasting impact on their lives.
