Celebrate a piece of lunar history

55 years ago today, astronaut David Scott picked up what would become known as the 'Great Scott' rock from the surface of the Moon, as part of the Apollo 15 mission.

After the astronauts and their sample returned to Earth, a fragment of this 3.3-billion-year-old rock made its way to the Science Museum — and you can get up close to this chunk of lunar history in our free Space gallery.
