
It's an exciting year in the town, as they celebrate not one, but three anniversaries! 2026 marks 250 years since Jedediah Strutt built the South Mill, his first cotton spinning mill in Belper in 1776. This year also sees the 300th anniversary since his birth, as well as 25 years of the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site, inscribed by UNESCO in 2001.
