Kents Cavern in Torquay, Devon is a protected Prehistoric Cave with an extensive labyrinth of spectacular and easily accessible caverns. The oldest human fossil ever found in north-western Europe was found at Kents Cavern making it the oldest known human dwelling in Britain.


The geology of the cave is of international significance, recognised by UNESCO, giving it official status as the underground visitor centre for the English Riviera Global Geopark. The caverns have inspired many famous writers including Beatrix Potter and Agatha Christie.

Tours around the cave are led by entertaining guides who bring the incredible story of the cave’s Ice Age history back to life. The attraction has many awards for quality and visitor reviews give the attraction a high ranking on Trip Advisor. There is a superb gift shop, good restaurant and relaxing gardens. Spectacular coastal walks, along the South West Coast Path, beginning and end at the caves.
Kents Cavern is very accessible with only 9 shallow steps inside the caves, concrete paths throughout, plenty of head room and no stooping. We are also the warmest cave in Britain with a constant year-round temperature of 14°C.
