These evocative ruins and their wave-lashed coastal setting are a delight to explore. Recent updates to the site, both indoors and out, offer groups even more insight into its 1,500-yearold history and the role legends have played in shaping it. The centrepiece is an eight-foot figure, cast in bronze, inspired both by the legend of King Arthur and the historic kings and royal figures associated with Tintagel. The site is also a must-see for groups with archaeology enthusiasts. Tintagel was an important trading settlement in the post-Roman era and it continues to reveal treasures from the past which can be enjoyed in the exhibition.

Wander the ‘island’ headland with its remains of post-Roman era buildings, where rulers traded luxury goods with the Mediterranean.

Explore the medieval castle and chapel ruins, enjoying views of the invigorating Cornish coastline.

Imagine how this clifftop setting inspired stories and art over the centuries, fascinating writers such as Tennyson and painters such as Turner and the Victorian Pre-Raphaelites.

Take in the recently installed dynamic exhibition exploring how links to Arthurian legend have influenced the history of the site. Don’t miss the engrossing 3D model of the island.

PLEASE NOTE

In 2018, work will begin on a new footbridge at Tintagel Castle that will follow the path of the original crossing between the mainland and the headland. Tintagel Castle will remain fully open to visitors throughout the spring and summer, before closing for the construction of the bridge from October 2018. The project is due to be completed in spring 2019. Please contact the property or check the website for updates.
