Come and get creative at the National Space Centre’s Christmas Craft Fair on Sunday, 1 December.

The visitor attraction is working with local independent makers to host a very special festive market with a hands-on twist. Families are invited to the Centre to take part in maker sessions with each stall holder, as well as the chance to buy some all-important seasonal gifts that will help support local independent makers.

It’s all part of Museum Shop Sunday, a day dedicated to getting hands-on with new crafts and skills, as well as discovering more about our local creator community. Now in its third year, Museum Shop Sunday celebrates the unique and exciting shops which play such a vital role in helping charity attractions to survive and thrive. Over 1,000 cultural venues worldwide will be putting on special events.

Each of the market stalls at the Craft Fair will be hosting timed or drop-in sessions throughout the day for children and adults to get hands-on by making something amazing to take home. You will discover a huge array of the very best local makers and creators, not only offering you an opportunity to get involved, but also selling some fantastic festive gifts.

Market stalls and crafting workshops include:

  • Help create a commemorative quilt for the Royal Astronomical Society ahead of their 200th anniversary next year.
  • Take part in an illustration workshop led by artist Chloe Hall in collaboration with Loughborough’s Ohh Deer.
  • Make your own Christmas pudding pom poms with Daisy D Crochet, based in Nottingham.
  • Guess the blends - Tea tasting sessions with Unitea Blends.
  • Create your very own solar system bracelet with Leicestershire’s Maybe Moor.

Rebeca Leggat, Public Events Officer at the National Space Centre, said: “We’re really excited to take part in Museum Shop Day this year. We’re really proud of our local creator community and this event allows us to celebrate their work whilst also offering visitors the chance to take part in some fantastic hands-on workshops.

“The curation process we have taken also means that we have little to no duplication, ensuring the very best experience for customers and sellers. Come along and discover the truly unique gifts that you would want to discover under your tree from Santa.”

By shopping at this market, you are actively contributing to the future sustainability of our region. You’re also helping to support small businesses, start-ups, independent suppliers and artisan makers.
