Mother Christmas Takes Centre Stage!

A feisty new character has joined the team at the Eden Project, just in time for the opening of the Festival of Christmas on Saturday (November 30).

Mother Christmas is a practical, no-nonsense addition to Eden's Father Christmas experience, complementing the cheekiness of the elves and the jollity of Santa himself.

She is a vital cog in the yuletide machine and works hard with Father Christmas and the elves to make sure the season goes smoothly. Each member of the team brings their unique skills and Christmas spirit to the Eden grotto.

The Father Christmas experience is part of Eden's Festival of Christmas, which also features the project’s biggest ever Christmas music programme, beautiful lighting, a giant Christmas tree, Luke Jerram's stunning Gaia Earth installation and a Christmas jumper swap shop.

Kate Francis, Eden Live Programme Producer, said: "We're very pleased to be welcoming Mother Christmas to our Festival of Christmas. She is an integral part of the North Pole team and has been working away from the Eden limelight for years so we thought it was time to introduce her to our audience.

“She is full of Christmas cheer and we're sure that she will be a festive hit with our visitors!"

Father Christmas sessions are bookable and take place during the day and some early evenings during weekends from November 30 to December 15. From December 18 to Christmas Eve there are sessions every day. Pre-booking is essential and many timeslots have already sold out.

Relaxed sessions for children with autism spectrum condition, sensory and communications needs or learning disabilities, who may benefit from a more informal experience, are also available to book.

The full Festival of Christmas programme takes place on selected evenings from November 30 and all activities, with the exception of Father Christmas and ice-skating, are included in Eden admission. The ice rink is open daily throughout the Christmas season.
