Plans for Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre

Thursday saw the 5th AGM for local charity, Grow Cook Learn at the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre. And what an exciting one it was as the team of staff and trustees of the charity introduced their new development ideas for the site.

Following years of improving the financial stability of the Centre’s operation, the team at Grow Cook Learn are really excited to be able to look towards the future with development plans for the meadows as well as the building itself.

Speaking to an audience of friends and members from the local community at the Centre on Thursday evening, the group assigned to the development project introduced the Outstanding Natural Project which aims to build on the Centre’s reputation, delivering four separate but complementary schemes.

The schemes will delight, inform and inspire visitors and locals alike. The project deliver four schemes altogether: Squelch - a wetland area and bird hide; Hillfort Home - an Iron age cookhouse, fort and play area; Soil’s got Soul - a growing and horticulture project and Wildlife Cafe - a remodelled café focussing on quality local food.

Fundraising efforts have begun with potential funding schemes being explored as this initial stage. The team also introduced a major fundraising event which will be revealed in the coming weeks and supporters came forward with suggestions and feedback on each of the ideas.

A public community consultation will be had before any definite plans are started.
