Ludlow Farm Shop's Butchers Award

Shropshire butcher crowned runner up competing for England at Five Nations International Butchery Championship

A butcher from Shropshire has been crowned runner up in the singles category at the Five Nations International Butchery Championships 2019.

The first Five Nations Butchery Championship, run by Butchery Excellence International took place at the Meat2Trade Exhibition at Eikon Exhibition Centre, Balmoral Park, Sprucefield Lisburn on 2nd and 3rd October 2019. Singles and pairs from Ireland, Scotland, England, Iceland and Germany competed in what was a thrilling show of expertise and skill.

Although Ireland took the title this year, England's John Brereton came close behind in 2nd place this year and put up a professional, innovative display in the singles category at the Five Nations International Butchery Championships 2019.

John Brereton is Head Butcher at Ludlow Farmshop. Ludlow Farmshop is a multi-award winning shop that provides a unique shopping experience where farming, food production and retailing come together to create a very special environment.

Rhonda Montgomery, Chief Executive Officer at Butchery Excellence International and meat 2 Trade said “John should be very proud in taking a trophy to Ludlow Farmshop and did England proud taking part in Europe's first five nations championship. This competition was the first of its kind in Europe and to have a competitor from England take part was brilliant. John really excelled himself and showed all spectators how innovative and creative he could be in 60 minutes of competition time. It was great to see England take home a top prize on the day."

John Brereton, Head Butcher at Ludlow Farmshop said: “It was an honour to take part in the competition and represent England and Ludlow Farmshop. Everyone who entered created some amazing displays which was great to see. Hopefully we will see more competitions like this and I would thoroughly like to be involved in any going forward."

The awards are organised by Butchery Excellence International, which was established in June 2014 by founder Rhonda Montgomery. It’s the first Professional Butchery Support Organisation in Ireland that operates in the 32 counties of Ireland. The company was created to help butchers across the country keep on top of changes to legislation and the associated costs to implement changes.
