Historic Hever Castle in Kent offers visitors of all ages a day out to remember. Situated in the heart of idyllic countryside, the romantic castle is famous for being the childhood home of Anne Boleyn, second wife of Henry VIII and mother of Queen Elizabeth I.

The original medieval castle with its gatehouse and walled bailey was built in 1270, with the Tudor dwelling added within its walls by the powerful Bullen family who lived at Hever during the 15th and 16th centuries. Its splendid panelled rooms contain fine furniture, tapestries, an important collection of Tudor portraits and artefacts including two Books of Hours signed and inscribed by Anne Boleyn.

In 1903, the Estate was bought by the American multi-millionaire, William Waldorf Astor, who invested an immense amount of time, money and imagination restoring the castle and grounds. He created the award-winning formal and natural gardens between 1904–1908. Each area has its own style and character, from the magnificent Pompeiian Wall and classical statuary in the Italian Garden to the Tudor Garden and walled Rose Garden containing over 4,000 fragrant roses.

The Grotto Walk leads to the majestic Loggia overlooking the 38-acre lake, inspired by the Trevi Fountain in Rome. Traditional rowing boats are available for hire at weekends and school holidays from April to September, weather permitting, as well as trips in the African Queen steamboat. Other attractions include a yew maze and splashing water maze, the adventure playground and an impressive display of miniature model houses.

The restaurants offer a delicious selection of hot and cold food and refreshments, and there’s a wide range of gifts and souvenirs in the gift and garden shops, many of which reflect the Castle’s colourful history.

A programme of special events runs throughout the year, most of which are included in the normal entrance price. This year’s events include Edwardian Life at the Castle, Hever’s Home Front, Hever in Bloom, Paws at the Castle, Homemade & Homegrown Festival and the popular Jousting Tournaments during the summer holidays.
