With majestic locomotives, historic stations and stunning scenery, the Severn Valley Railway is one of the UK’s most popular heritage railways.

More than 250,000 passengers each year board the SVR’s lovingly-restored locomotives for exhilarating journeys along the 16-mile line, from the thriving hub of Kidderminster in Worcestershire to the ancient riverside town of Bridgnorth in Shropshire.

Visitors can explore any of the six historic stations or delve into an array of railway memorabilia and artefacts at Kidderminster Railway Museum.

The fascinating Engine House Visitor Centre at Highley is a great place to break the journey, hosting the latest exhibitions and interactive exhibits as well as the SVR’s reserve collection of full-size locomotives, travelling post office and King George VI Royal Carriage.

A wealth of freshly-prepared food (including the SVR’s famous breakfast) is on offer at Kidderminster refreshment room and the brand new refreshment room at Bridgnorth. Local real ales and great food are also served with a warm welcome at the much-loved, award-winning pubs The Railwayman’s Arms and the King & Castle, while al fresco dining is available on the terrace at the Engine House Café as the trains steam by.  Indulgent on-board dining experiences and afternoon teas are also available to book in advance.

The SVR’s special events calendar is always a busy one, including Spring and Autumn Steam Galas, Diesel Festivals, Step Back to the 1940s Weekends, Classic Vehicle Day, Steam on the Road, Ghost Trains and the ever-popular Santa Steam Specials.

Open weekends from mid February and daily from May-October plus local school holidays. Groups of 12 or more can enjoy reserved seating, travel discounts and the services of a dedicated group travel co-ordinator. See www.svr.co.uk for more details.
