The Hardwick Estate is made up of stunning houses and beautiful landscapes that have been created by a cast of thousands.


It was the formidable Bess of Hardwick who first built Hardwick Hall in the late 16th century. In the centuries since then gardeners, builders, decorators, embroiderers and craftsmen of all kinds have contributed and made Hardwick their creation. We want you to explore and enjoy Hardwick and in the process discover the lives, loves and adventures of the builders of Hardwick. Note: Hardwick Old Hall in the grounds is owned by the National Trust and administered by English Heritage (01246 850431). No groups on Bank Holidays.

Behind the Potting Shed Tour 
Enjoy a brief but enlightening tour of the glorious garden at Hardwick Hall in the company of one of our experienced members of staff. The lovely walled courtyards enclose a fragrant herb garden, pretty orchards and beautiful lawns. You will discover the 'engine room' of the garden at Hardwick.

Behind the scenes at Hardwick
 Join our house and collections team to discover how we care for the beautiful treasures at Hardwick. Your guide will take you through doors generally closed to the public so you can see rooms and a selection of pieces not normally on display.
