Middleton Railway was established in 1758 by the first Act of Parliament for a railway. In 1812 it used the world’s first revenue earning steam locomotives. In 1960 it became the first standard gauge railway to be run by volunteers. Today it is a working Accredited Museum and Heritage Railway.
